Room dividers come in a wide range of sizes, designs, shapes and so on. If you're looking for something to divvy up your room or apartment, one of the important pieces of advice is to choose something that goes well with your space. So if your interior aesthetic is more modern and minimalist, you'll probably want to avoid something chunky and intricate. If your space has a more monochromatic palette, you may want to avoid room dividers with too much bright colour. That said; there are some attributes to look for in room dividers, which will be useful no matter where you choose to put them. Here are some of those characteristics to look for.

Stability

One of the first things to consider in room dividers is stability. Some of this will depend on the design of the divider. Does it fold into a zig-zag pattern, which provides it with the ability to stay upright? Or does it have a base or platform, which gives it stability, even if it's completely unfolded? Stability is important because you want to avoid the possibility that your room dividers could fall. Ideally, you'll want something that is stable, even in the event of a mild earthquake, or in case there's howling wind from a thunderstorm outside.

Lightness or Ease of Movement

This is less of an issue if you don't intend to move your room dividers around a lot. But for many home owners or apartment dwellers, there's usually a time when room dividers will need to be shifted to different positions, maybe while cleaning or perhaps in order to accommodate a new furniture arrangement. So if the dividers are relatively easy to haul from one location to another, that's going to be a definite plus. Some dividers are made of lighter materials like wood and paper, so these are particularly easy to fold, unfold and move around. So if you can see yourself changing arrangements a lot, look for more portable and movable room dividers. UK stores and sites will have many of these to choose from, so be sure to do some comparison shopping.

Sound Dampening

You may not always need your room dividers to dampen sound or noise, but it's still something that's good to have just in case. After all, if you're studying or resting while someone else is watching TV, it will help to put a noise absorbing divider between the both of you. Now, some room dividers will be better at this than others, and much will depend on the material used in the divider, the presence of any insulating type of material, as well as the height and size of the divider. If you can find room dividers that look good and work well for you, but which can also dampen noise, that would make for a compelling choice.
